5 Simple Holiday Party Outfits

The holidays are quickly approaching and that means PARTIES! I personally don’t have a ton of parties to go to (I’d rather have a snuggly night in with close friends and family haha) but soo many of you have asked for holiday outfit ideas, so I thought I’d get a little creative this season and come up with a few for you using pieces in my closet I already own.

Outfit #1

This first look is more a business casual outfit that I can see myself wearing to a more corporate company party. If you’ve got any of these closet staples in your wardrobe, you can pull together this look! I’m wearing a simple black shift dress and an oversized blazer on top. Since its winter, I’ve paired it with some sheer tights and heeled boots to complete the look. I accessorized with minimal gold jewelry to add some sparkle to the whole outfit.

Outfit #2:

This is probably my most festive outfit since I’m sporting a very bold wine red blouse from OhSevenDays. This outfit features a multi-way wrap blouse that I’ve tucked into a pair of black trousers, completed with the same pair of heeled boots. The blouse is clearly the star of this outfit simply because it’s such a bold colour. But what draws me to it are the beautiful, billowy sleeves! (P.S. I have a discount code for OhSevenDays if you’re interested - O7DWINTER19)

This is fairly similar to what I’d wear on a daily basis, a shirt tucked into high-waisted bottoms, but for the holidays I like that it’s “fancied up” a touch! For accessories, I’m wearing the same minimal gold chain necklace to emphasize the nice neckline of the wrap top.

Outfit #3:

Playing with the "faux jumpsuit” idea in this outfit. I think you can never go wrong with an all-black look for any occasion. It’s simple, chic and comfortable to wear and I’m all about hassle-free outfits. I made a faux jumpsuit by tucking in a black ribbed turtleneck into a pair of trousers. For a warmer climate, I added a pop of colour by pairing this look with my olive mules. But if you’re in the cold tundra like me, then a pair of boots is probably your best bet for this outfit!

Outfit #4:

I’m playing with the little sweater tuck trick I’ve been seeing on the internet lately — thanks to Jess With Less for this tip! I cropped this knit over a black pleated dress and finished the look off with some tights to keep warm and yes, the same boots. I went a little more dressy with the accessories and decided to pair this outfit with pearl hoop earrings from Mejuri. I’m not usually into dresses unless it’s for a wedding or fancy occasion, but I like that this outfit still has a bit of me peeking through in the neutral colour palette.

Last but not least, I have a classic 90s-inspired outfit for ya! This one involves a simple summer slip dress layered on top of a fitted turtleneck. It really does the trick for styling a summer staple in the winter while staying warm! If you have a slip with a more festive colour, that’d be perfect for the holidays. I only have this in my wardrobe, so I decided to use what I have! I completed the look with some heeled boots again because it’s cold haha!

Styling Boots for Winter

how-to

It’s time — time to pull out the boots! Depending where you live, it probably changes what boots you’ll be styling this winter. I’ve pulled out three pairs of boots to style for this segment. These boots help me transition from fall to deep winter. Alright, let’s get into it!

The Boots

  1. A classic pair of rain boots - I’m styling the Classic Black + White Ankle Rain Boot from Alice + Whittles. These are the perfect rainy day boot that seriously go with any outfit because they are so simple and have such a classic look. I’ve worn these around town and also on light hikes and they’ve held up very well keeping my feet dry and warm.

  2. The elevated ankle boot - I’m styling the Town Boot from Dear Frances. These are literally a dream to wear! They are so slim and beautifully crafted with the most flattering soft square-toe silhouette. They feature a comfortable heel and delicate panelled sides. These have been my go-to pair of every day boots.

  3. The weather-defying combat boot - I’m styling the Phoenix Lace Boot from Sorel. I bought these last year to replace an old pair of winter boots that came to the end of its life. These held up pretty well in the Toronto snow and keep my feet feeling snuggly and warm throughout the winter.

Outfit #1

Look number one is made for those light, rainy fall days — complete with wardrobe staples like a striped long sleeve shirt and a pair of wide leg denim. Pop on a fleece jacket and some classic rain boots for the perfect casual rainy day outfit.

Outfit #2

Sweater: Modern Fisher Cotton Sepia, Tradlands Denim: Abigail Crop, Outland Denim

This outfit is for those cold rainy days when you just want to stay snuggled in bed. I’ve tucked a classic fisher knit into a pair of black skinnies, along with cozy socks. To complete the look, I went full on with the rain gear — rain jacket and rain boots to make for the perfect waterproof outfit!

Outfit #3

If you know me, you know I love timeless, classic outfits. This outfit is something I can see myself wearing season after season. I’ve styled these ankle boots with a pair of straight leg jeans and a chunky, oversized black knit. This is my kind of go-to outfit during the colder seasons. I mean, who doesn’t want to snuggle up in the coziest sweater while sipping on a cup of hot coffee? For the outerwear, I’ve gone with my oversized wool coat that gives it a pop of colour while keeping the sophisticated feel of the outfit.

Continuing on with the classic outfits, lately I’ve been experimenting with lighter denim for fall/winter and have been loving it! It adds another dimension to an outfit and a sort of airy, lightness to outfits that would typically be weighed down by heavier knits. In this outfit, I’m playing with contrast. Contrast in colour as well as with silhouettes. I really enjoy the dramatic feel of the black turtleneck against the beige pants and the form fitting top with the wide-leg bottoms.

Outfit #5

Turtleneck: old UNIQLO Denim: old Cheap Monday Belt: Frank & Oak

The final pair of boots I’m styling are my winter snow boots. This is an outfit I often sport during the winter because it’s simple and easy to throw on in the hustle and bustle of a busy morning. This outfit has a slimming silhouette with the black turtleneck and high waisted mom jeans, cinched at the waist with a minimalistic circle belt. The combat-style boots add a bit of edge to an otherwise “plain” look. For this wintery look, a puffer jacket is the way to go!

Outfit #6

Sweater: Oversized Alpaca Crew, Everlane Denim: Abigail Crop, Outland Denim

This final outfit features the most gorgeous alpaca wool knit tucked into a pair of black skinnies. The combat boots continue the line of the black skinnies, making my legs appear longer than they are. This helps to elongate the body and is a simple styling hack for anyone looking to add a little height to their outfits! I “topped” off this look with a me-made toque and a puffer for my final deep freeze outfit.

That’s it from me! I hope you enjoyed these wintery outfits and little tips along the way for styling boots this season. Maybe it’s given you a bit of inspiration. I’d love to hear your thoughts — let me know which outfit was your favourite! Is there one that you want to try out this season?

5 Transitional Weather Outfits to Carry You Into Fall

a weekly roundup

It’s officially that time of the year again, when the air is brisk and I start to crave all things cozy, snuggly, and warm. Yup, it’s sweater weather! Along with sweater weather comes transitional weather. It can be tricky to dress for transitional weather to make sure we’re staying warm but also not burning in the heat of what’s left of summer. This week was just the week for transitional outfits — complete with chilly mornings and evenings, summer-like afternoons, and sprinkles of rainy days. Let’s hop into my week in transitional outfits!

Monday

Monday's look was classic and hassle-free. You can’t get more classic than an oversized denim jacket and a pair of Chucks. This is a simple look that I often find myself sporting. It’s definitely one to try out if you have a capsule wardrobe. I’m sure you have similar items in your wardrobe that you can use to recreate this look. A denim jacket is the perfect transitional weather piece that is great as a light layer for those chilly mornings.

Tuesday

Rainy day? No problem! On Tuesday I sported an all-black outfit from head to toe while bringing in a bit of fall colour with this fuzzy fleece jacket. I also brought out my trusty rain boots as I prepare for some wet fall days this season. These rain boots are practical, stylish and the get the job done of keeping my feet warm during my every day adventures!

Wednesday

Lately I’ve been pinning classic white button-ups all over my Pinterest board. I’ve been feeling very inspired by this classic, laidback style. I particularly love the oversized fit of this white shirt paired over some black skinny jeans. A thin button-up like this is great for those fall days that don’t quite feel like fall yet. I completed this look with a pair of mules that I think just go so well with a simple outfit. These mules add a nice splash of colour while staying true to my earthy, neutral colour palette.

Thursday

This outfit was very heavily inspired by fall tones and all things fall. The pumpkin-y coloured pants along with a light, cream coloured sweater made for the perfect pumpkin spice latte combination! I’m actually not a fan of the drink itself and am more of a straight up coffee kind of person, but I was definitely inspired by the colours. This outfit was also a bit of an experiment with a sweater over a jumpsuit. This is a simple way to bring spring/summer pieces into your fall wardrobe. I paired a cotton knit over top of the light, airy jumpsuit to offer some warmth and make the outfit more appropriate for fall.

Friday

For Friday I decided to go for a comfy, casual Friday outfit that is the perfect transition from summer to fall. It’s playing with the same idea of using a summer jumpsuit and making it more fall appropriate. This time, instead of on top of the jumpsuit, I’m playing with layering underneath. I paired a thin long-sleeve shirt under this jumpsuit for some added warmth. Depending on your jumpsuit, you could also experiment with layering a thicker knit underneath for an even chillier day. I completed the look with a pair of slip-ons for total comfort!

I hope you enjoyed following along with my transitional outfits this week. Have any of them inspired you to get creative with your wardrobe? Is there a style you’re excited to experiment with? Let me know below!
